My gardening philosophy

I see the garden as living, constantly-changing, three-dimensional walk-through sculpture, a mixture of your desires and my designs. I believe in an organic, low maintenance approach to gardening. I don't expect perfection, just pull up the weeds, prune to allow air to circulate freely and to remove diseased wood. Forget about fussy plants that need to dug up annually or need to be wrapped up every winter.

Avoid pesticides because they kill insects that are food for birds; they also kill beneficial predators. Herbicides kill plants that are food for insects that in turn are eaten by birds.. A well-prepared soil, with lots of manure and compost, is a necessity. Healthy soil, with a regular addition of compost builds plant resistance to disease. And lots of mulch on top cools the ground, conserves water and frustrates the weeds.
